Higher-Strength Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Options

THS and TSHS are hot rolled stainless steel product options developed for applications requiring higher strength together with controlled dimensions and surface condition.

Depending on grade and processing route, controlled rolling, annealing, pickling and additional deformation can be used to obtain different mechanical-property levels.

These products may be considered for railway vehicles, containers, tanks, structural components and industrial fabrication where higher strength can support design or material-efficiency requirements.

Mechanical properties are grade- and specification-dependent. Required yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, dimensions and tolerances should be confirmed on the purchase specification and material certificate.

Product typeDefinition304 Example / Reference Description
No.1Annealed pickled coils by hot rollingPublished 304 example: yield strength about 240 MPa without additional deformation.
2EAnnealed pickled coils by direct rollingPublished 304 example: improved surface condition with controlled rolling deformation and scale breaking.
THSHigh tension extended steel coil by direct rolling, annealing and picklingPublished 304 example: yield strength about 300 MPa after the specified deformation process.
TSHSHigh tension extended steel coil by direct rolling, annealing and picklingPublished 304 example: yield strength about 350 MPa after the specified higher-deformation process.

Note: The yield-strength values shown above are published reference examples for 304 stainless steel and should not be treated as guaranteed mechanical properties for every grade or order. Actual mechanical properties depend on material grade, processing route, thickness and applicable specification. Final guaranteed values should be confirmed in the purchase specification and material test certificate (MTC).

Frequently Asked Questions About Hot Rolled Stainless Steel

What is hot rolled stainless steel?

Hot rolled stainless steel is produced by rolling stainless steel at elevated temperature, followed by processes such as annealing and pickling depending on the required product type. It is commonly supplied as coil, sheet or plate for industrial fabrication.

What thicknesses and widths are available?

The current published product range covers thicknesses from 1.4 mm to 20 mm, widths from 30 mm to 2100 mm and lengths up to 12,000 mm. Actual availability depends on grade, product type, quantity and applicable specification.

What is the difference between No.1, 2E, THS and TSHS?

No.1 is a conventional annealed and pickled hot rolled product. 2E involves additional rolling or scale-breaking processing for different surface and dimensional requirements. THS and TSHS are higher-strength product options produced through controlled processing. Mechanical properties depend on grade and final specification.

Are the 240 MPa, 300 MPa and 350 MPa yield-strength values guaranteed?

No. These values are published reference examples for 304 stainless steel on this page. Guaranteed mechanical properties should be confirmed according to the ordered grade, thickness, applicable standard, purchase specification and material test certificate.

What applications use hot rolled stainless steel?

Hot rolled stainless steel sheet and coil are commonly used for tanks, containers, railway vehicles, heat exchangers, industrial pipes, structural components and general fabrication.

Can hot rolled stainless steel be cut to custom dimensions?

Cut-to-length and other processing requirements can be reviewed according to the stainless steel grade, thickness, width, required dimensions and order quantity.

What information should I provide for a quotation?

Please provide the stainless steel grade, product type, thickness, width, sheet length or coil size, quantity, applicable standard and destination. Include any required mechanical properties, tolerances or processing requirements with the inquiry.
