The project “Carbon Dioxide Green Clean Steelmaking Technology and Application”, in which JISCO Group participated, won the Grand Prize of China Metallurgical Science and Technology Award in 2021. This award, jointly initiated and established by China Iron and Steel Industry Association and the Chinese Society for Metals, is the highest science and technology award in China’s metallurgical industry.
In 2016, JISCO Hongxing Joint Stock Company cooperated with the University of Science and Technology Beijing to explore the possibility of recycling carbon dioxide in steelmaking and to study in-depth the technology of carbon dioxide enhanced bottom blowing safety and long life and the technology of carbon dioxide for converter bottom powder coating process. Through several data calculations and experimental simulations, the CO2 enhanced bottom blowing safety and long-life technology and CO2 for converter bottom powder coating technology have been tested in Jiu Steel’s carbon steel sheet plant. It has been proved that the carbon dioxide high-flow bottom-blowing technology for converter steelmaking is practical and feasible, and shows strong technical advantages in nitrogen control and oxygen control.
After the successful test, the carbon steel sheet plant relied on the test equipment to realize the application of the converter CO2 high flow bottom-blowing process, and in the long-term stable operation, the advantages of the converter CO2 high flow bottom-blowing process gradually emerged. Compared with the traditional steelmaking process, the CO2 green clean steelmaking technology of this project has significantly improved the steelmaking technology level, and has an overall advantage in the indicators of end-point nitrogen content, full iron in slag, end-point carbon and oxygen product, bottom-blowing gas supply strength and bottom-blowing life.
